NAACP Launches Census Participation Program U.S. Census Day April 1, 2010 It’s Census time. Participation is crucial, because every person counted--or not counted-- impacts the next ten years of federal funds, political representation, public infrastructure, and private investment in your community. Join us on the NAACP’s Yes We Count Census web page, where you can get involved, take our online pledge and sign up for our Census mobile network.
Every 10 years, the U.S. government conducts a national Census: a demographic count of the American people. Federal funding, political representation, infrastructure projects & private investment are all based on Census data. When families do not participate, their communities lose resources and power. Yet low-income families and communities of color—those who stand the most to benefit from the Census—are often less likely to participate.
That's why the NAACP has launched Yes We Count, a nationwide mobilization to ensure that every American family participates. We'll be canvassing hard-to-reach neighborhoods and getting word out through our mobile phone network, but we can’t do it alone. Spread the word, take the pledge and volunteer. Together, we can make sure that every American is counted.
